Herman "Herm" Edwards

Coach Herman “Herm” Edwards is a former NFL and college head coach, and a current ESPN football analyst who appears across a variety of shows including SportsCenter, Get Up, and many ESPN radio programs. His contributions extend beyond his broadcasting duties as his voice is fully integrated into the network’s platforms, including radio and digital media.

He is a former head coach at Arizona State where he led the Sun Devils to three bowl games in his first four seasons in Tempe. Also at ASU, Edwards contributed in many other aspects of the university including serving as a Professor of Practice in the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, where he was a guest lecturer and held periodic discussions around sports and media. Edwards recently concluded his tenure at Arizona State and continues to influence through his dynamic presentations focusing on the pillars of teamwork: work ethic, communication, integrity, and legacy.

Edwards is a former NFL head coach for the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs, where he led both teams to the postseason in his inaugural season. Additionally, he was the first graduate of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Minority Coaching Fellowship to become the head coach of the franchise. During his coaching career, Edwards also played a significant role in mentoring young players and emphasizing the importance of charitable work.

Edwards spent nine years in the NFL as a defensive back with the Philadelphia Eagles. While with the Eagles, he never missed a game in nine seasons, started in Super Bowl XV, and his 33 career interceptions remain tied for second most in franchise history. His notable playing career included key moments like his involvement in the play known as "The Miracle at the Meadowlands."

Edwards is a consummate team member, always charity-minded, and an ambassador for the game of football. Past recognitions of Edwards' efforts have included being named the Walter Camp Foundation Man of the Year; Team ESPN Commentator of the Year, and recognized by Shell Oil Company with the Shell Legacy Award. His philanthropic involvement spans multiple causes, including the Diabetes Research Institute, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. He also founded the Herm Edwards Youth Football Camp, which provides free football training and life lessons to underprivileged children.
